New theory claims to unite Einstein’s gravity with quantum mechanics

UCL physicists have proposed a groundbreaking theory that reconciles gravity and quantum mechanics, preserving Einstein’s classical concept of spacetime. The “postquantum theory of classical gravity” suggests spacetime is not governed by quantum theory, leading to unpredictable, violent fluctuations in spacetime. The theory, which also has implications for the black hole information problem, is being tested through an experiment measuring a mass’s weight fluctuations over time.
