NASA finds organic compounds seeping up from hidden ocean on Jupiter’s icy moon Ganymede

NASA’s Juno spacecraft has detected salts and organic compounds on Ganymede, Jupiter’s largest moon, during a flyby in June 2021. The discovery could help scientists understand Ganymede’s formation and evolution, and possibly reveal the chemical composition of its subsurface ocean. The presence of these compounds suggests potential hydrothermal activity beneath Ganymede’s icy surface or interactions between its ocean and deep-seated rocks.
