Psychologists have identified a pervasive illusion that has existed for at least 70 years


A study published in Nature reveals a pervasive illusion of moral decline, with people across different decades and countries believing morality has worsened since their birth. Despite evidence suggesting cooperative behavior has increased over time, the study found that 84.18% of US participants and a majority from 59 other nations perceived a moral decline. The researchers attribute this to two psychological biases: biased exposure to negative information about current morality and biased memory for positive information about past morality.
