Humans Have a Third Set of Teeth. New Medicine May Help Them Grow.


Japanese researchers are preparing for a 2024 clinical trial to test a medicine that could enable humans to regrow teeth. The treatment targets the USAG-1 gene, which limits tooth growth. The team believes humans have a third set of teeth ready to grow, and by blocking the USAG-1 protein, these teeth could be encouraged to develop. If successful, the tooth regrowth medicine could be available by 2030.
