A renegade moon may have flipped Venus’s spin


Venus’s unique rotation, opposite to all other planets in the solar system, may have been caused by the drag of an ancient moon in a backwards orbit. This theory, proposed by Valeri Makarov at the United States Naval Observatory and Alexey Goldin at Teza Technologies, suggests the early solar system’s chaotic environment as a contributing factor.
