It’s Official: Oxygen Has Been Directly Detected in Venus’ Dayside Atmosphere

Astronomers have detected atomic oxygen in the daylight atmosphere of Venus, providing new insights into the planet’s atmospheric dynamics. This discovery could help scientists understand why Venus, similar to Earth in many ways, is so drastically different in others. The presence of atomic oxygen, a highly reactive single oxygen atom, could also offer a new way to study the transitional atmospheric zone on Venus. This research could ultimately improve our understanding of Earth’s own atmosphere.
